Students refine their vocal skills in a highly demanding (Level V & VI festival rated music) small ensemble setting. Auditions evaluate skill in sight-reading and musicianship as well as assessment of blend, intonation, and part independence in a small group, a cappella setting. Music to be performed comes from the Renaissance period as well as more contemporary chamber music and other major a cappella styles including pop and jazz. Singers will be required to complete outside musical study requirements to attain honors credit for this course. Madrigals are also required to perform concert masterworks as members of the Concert Choir. An intense performing schedule includes concerts at school and in the community, as well as county, state, and/or national festivals that are required to meet course objectives.
