montgomery blair high school fine arts department
In the fall of 2012, MBHS teachers Megan Hart and Summer Roark from the Science department teamed up with Fine Arts teacher Amanda Toms to sponsor a new club at Blair. The Science and Art club began second semester (spring 2013) with the goal of combining both Science and Art in an effort to decorate the halls of Blair with student-designed murals. Toms, Roark, and Hart worked together along with students to come up with the first mural that is displayed on the third floor by the Science office. This mural is known as the STEM mural because it encompasses Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math within its subject matter. The Science and Art club met every Tuesday after school to come up with an initial idea and a sketch. After Spring Break, they started painting the mural. Students and teachers involved in the process stayed after school throughout the week during fourth quarter to ensure that the mural would be completed before the end of the school year. On Friday, June 7th, 2013 the STEM mural was unveiled to the school. The Science and Art club will continue next year in hopes of creating at least two more murals in other locations in the school.
Below are some views that show the progress of the mural while it was being painted.
